In a move that is expected to help grieving families, the Kerala government has started a scheme repatriate to bodies of Indian expats in Gulf Countries free of cost.
People who are not able to receive aid from the employer, sponsor or embassy can use this scheme.
Non-Resident Keralites’ Affairs (NORKA) Roots chief executive officer and Air India executive director (cargo) have signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU), Kerala Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan announced in a Facebook post.
“The relatives of those working in Gulf countries face sudden financial hurdles when their relative dies. To solve this problem, the state government had announced the scheme in the last budget in order to aid families in such incidents. This has now been fulfilled,” said Vijayan.
Relatives or friends of the expatriate have to submit an application form, available on the website of NORKA Roots, to use the scheme.
