Kuwait City: The interior ministry has denied social media rumours which claimed an amnesty for visa violators has been announced from January 29, 2019, until February 24, 2019, according to Kuwait Times.

“This report is untrue and lacks credibility,” the ministry’s public relations and security department said in a statement yesterday, noting that it would launch an awareness campaign before any such announcement.

The ministry announced a general amnesty last year (2018) between January 29 and February 22, which allowed expatriates to either leave the country through any port without getting permission from any authority and without paying any penalties or legalise their status in Kuwait after paying all fines and obtaining a valid visa without being referred to the investigation department.

The amnesty was later extended for two more months.
