Selective tax to decrease obesity and smoking rates
Kuwait: Government authorities showed that implementing the selective tax in Kuwait will decrease obesity rates and smoking by almost 25 per cent in the next five years.
Sources stated that one of the aims of implementing the selective tax if approved would be to drop the obesity and smoking rates by 2023.
Finance Minister Nayef Al Hajraf stated that the tax has a health aspect, adding that the health ministry keeps an eye on the negative effects of consuming tobacco products, energy drinks and fizzy drinks on the people’s health.
